English Project Week - 5. Klassen

Reflexion zweier Schülerinnen der 5. Klassen zu einer Projektwoche auf Englisch mit einem native speaker direkt in der Schule:

During our “English Project Week“ we improved our English a lot by speaking English only to both our teachers and our classmates while doing many speaking tasks in pairs and groups.

As you can guess from its ‚name‘, we actually had to work on projects in school and also at home. The main focus was on being as creative and enthusiastic about these projects (our teacher was always ready to give us advice on how to be creative) and, of course, to put in as much effort as possible. ;-) The project task was either to create a movie of our choice, a picture movie or just a specific amount of creative pictures taken by us. We carried out the project in groups, and each group could pick a category. The goal was to do something you are really passionate about and to take pictures or make a film about something we had decided on beforehand. The teacher wanted to give us as little instruction as possible, but rather wanted us to think independently and create something of our own. Some of us took their cameras with them to take pictures in school whereas others even brought their laptops in order to work on their project.

At the end of the week each group presented their projects to the other students and our teachers. We were not graded, however, the teachers could see and appreciate how much effort we had put into our projects. Apart from working on our projects we also did many other things during that week. First of all we played many fun games in English, listened to cool English songs and even sang karaoke in English. We also learned about the importance of English in the world of business. We created our own ‚fake‘ companies and talked about many other things that are important when doing business, which we think is very useful for our future.

We really enjoyed the Project Week - it was one of the most fun weeks we had at school. Apart from learning so much we also had a lot of fun and were very passionate creating a project of our own. The most remarkable thing is that at the end of this week many of us even thought in English and spoke English without even realizing. We believe that was the aim of the English Project Week. The results of the projects made us really proud and showed us how nice it is to put so much effort into something and to see the amazing result at the end. Needless to say, the projects would not have been such great fun if it had not been for our teachers, who taught us not only English but also how to be creative and passionate when working on things we like. We would definitely love to participate in an English week again!
